Bank lost Cheque

Hi All.

I deposited a Euro cheque into my account and the building society in question had to send this to a clearing bank and said it would take 6-8 weeks to clear. I agreed and signed a contract to the charges and the time it would take.

5 weeks after i had deposited the cheque the bank wrote to me to tell me that the cheque had been lost by the royal mail. I was told to apply for a new cheque. I have asked for compensaion but i was told that the royal mail are dealing with it and when they get back to the bank i might get something. I was told i am not the only person effected, but i still have not had my replacment cheque as it was from the Irish inland revenue and there is a mountain of paper work to get this re issued. So 7 weeks after depositing my cheque i still have no funds. Can i take legal action?

This thread is for PPI and insurance so I would think this may be better asked on another part of the site. If you look to the right hand side you will see "Forum Jump" and then a schroll list. I cannot say which one to use but I am sure there may be something more suitable.

Yes you can. If you written proof from the bank, royal admitting liability then go seek a decent solicitor.
If you see a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck !!!!!! :D
