Information overload -Homeserve v British Gas
Options
Hi,
I am looking at trying to save money on my Boiler/Drainage Insurance but getting to frustrated with all the info and T & C's
I have got British Gas Homecare 200 paying £16.99 per month and it's up for renewal now.
Having looked at the website and choosing the same Homecare 200 deal it should only be £13 per month so why am I paying £16.99?!
I also have from Homeserve the complete cover which consists of:
Plumbing & Drainage
Gas & Water Supply Pipe cover
24 hour claims number
Electrical Emergency Cover
Other Domestic Emergency - roofing - internal pest infestations
...for renewal @ £274 for the year £22.83 per month
Has anyone any advice on which company provides the best service/price as I feel myself going round in circles!
Many thanks,

There is a guy(Gerrard?) who works in the BG servicing centre who posts and will give you a proper answer.
However are you getting confused with 'Homecare Flexi' where you pay a fixed fee)on top of the monthly fee) for every repair?
There have been masses of threads on CH cover and Martin has written an article on the subject. and no firm conclusions reached, except they are all expensive and most people consider them poor value.0 -

Thanks for your reply,
I am not on the flexi deal and have just phoned them and the lady said my homecare 200 cover radiators and pipes cover which according to the lady the one one the website for £13 does not (homecare 200), which I find weird because it does say central heating cover!, to which she replied that it does not cover the pipes etc and it's just terminology hmm...
Anyway she gave me the usual we value you as a customer and as i have been with them for years they gave me a 10% dicount on my £16.99 per month fee. At least thats something.
I would realy like to know if there is much difference in cover between BGas and Homeserve as I think if it's just all the same then I could save alot of money taking the BGas homecare 400 out which has everything in it.
If this is the case would I be able to apply as a new customer in my wifes name and get £40 quidco even though we have the same surnames and same address?
I have got until the 20th October until my Homeserve complete cover gets renewed.... what to do what to do????0 -
Hello.
Homecare 200 covers your boiler, controls, hot pipes and radiators if you have a combi boiler. this should be £17 a month.
Homecare 100 will cover your boiler and controls it is £13 per month. these prices are for brand new customers.
Homecare 400 right now can be had at a discount you have to speak with Telesales I think to get it basically the plumbing and drains electrics and gas pipes are £8.65 extra right now on this offer. The water supply pipe is £1.79 outside of london and 1.99 inside of london so take your monthly price and add £8.65 + £1.79 to get your complete like for like policy.
Homeserve are more expensive than BG but they cover 2 or 3 more things
they cover taps and washers
they cover showers ( but charge extra check your policy)
We cover home emergency at £4.95 per month but dont charge for Your gas pipes as it is free with homecare 400
so for you just now it is £16.99 + £8.65 + £1.79 + £4.95 = £32.28 a month for BG
but as i said homserve do taps and showers which we dont.
but we are a care company not a home emergency there is a big diffrence
Ps you will not get quidco as if you cancel it will just reactivate your old account.
Hope that helps
