This is the exact same position friends of mine were in (they were buying a porperty from an older lady who was downsizing) daughter had said her mother could live with her if she couldnt find a new place. again every1 else in the chain was ready to move but then the daughter refused to let her mother stay with her.
my friend was in a real tizz, their great mortgage rate was 6 weeks from expirin. they had the surveys done and had spent a grand or so. originally they offered the old lady sum cash i think £1k to move in time for the mortgage rate but she declined. so they have had to pull out entirely.
it was all very sad and distressin for them as they had their heart set on the property and it was a rare find (lots of land etc).
i guess its not wat u want to hear OP but ur options are limited. if the vendor wont budge then u can either hang on and get a more expensive mortgage rate or begin the search again.
Good luck with whateva u decide, buyin houses is soooooo stressful!!
  • I do not envy you, I have been/am in a similar situation. Our seller agreed to go into rented but then 8 weeks in to our purchase had an offer accepted on another house and told us they would no longer go into rented as they wanted to tie their sale up with their purchase.

This then left me with a cash buyer who wanted us out within two weeks or was going to pull out. We called their bluff for a little longer but then the threat came again so we completed on our sale and have moved in with parents.

This was 6 weeks ago and we are still waiting for our seller to exchange and complete. We have been told for 3 weeks now we are close and exchange should be at the end of the week - it just seems never ending!!

Fingers crossed your sellers will make other plans with someone who will proceed before the end of the year. I would try and work with them as they are clearly in agreement with you on this matter.

It amazes me how selfish people in a chain can be - I for one do not want to attempt moving again for some time once this is all hopefully over.

Keep us posted and good luck.
