Hi guys,
I'm trying to allow my son's Ipod touch to use the wireless router, and need to do something with the WEP key passphrase or somesuch (router was set up by 17 YO son who knows everything :rolleyes: and wouldn't explain what he did, cos it's really easy just follow instructions etc but has hidden the manual
)
The ipod was already set up fine last week, but has somehow "lost" the ability to connect to our router and I am being hounded to get it working again. Please help
Ok I see the router settings screen and there are 4 keys (10 alphanumeric characters), and above that is a place to enter a passphrase. I know that I need to choose a key and enter it when asked on the ipod, but so far have had no luck. Please could I have an [STRIKE]idiot's[/STRIKE] step by step guide to setting this up?
Thanks so much - the school holidays are getting less fun by the minute

Like you said, it's as simple as that, just pick a key and enter it. You might also need to specify on the ipod which key it is (1, 2, 3 or 4). On the router screen the place to enter a passphrase is just there to generate new keys of you want to, otherwise leave it blank.
The problem is most likely with the settings on the ipod. Have you checked everything else? Are you sure it is set for WEP security and not WPA? The should be an option to change that. Make sure both the router and the ipod are using the same out of WEP and WPA.0 -
And if you get a chance, move to WPA, WEP is about as secure as a unlocked door.0

Thanks for the manual, Baldur, have downloaded that for perusal later.
Thanks for answering jd87, I've tried what it says in the manual (as you said too) and still have a problem. Ipod and router are set to WEP, but I still get denied access. The ipod is showing no ip address etc and my lack of techie experience has left me stumped. (I don't want to break it)
