Acer netbook - screen cracked

I opened my netbook this morning to find a big crack in the screen. It looks as if it has originated from an area nearish to the bottom left hinge (crack is kinda star shaped here) and goes diagonally up to the top right hand corner.
I intended reading the riot act to all in this house when they got up because I know I didn't damage it but I've been searching the net and found loads of people who are complaining about exactly the same thing and say they closed their netbook/laptop at night and when they opened it again, the screen was cracked. One person had it happen 5 minutes after closing it. Apparently Acer deny a screen problem and insist everyone's screen was damaged by other means. There seems too many saying the same thing for it to be just co-incidence though. My netbook sits by itself on a table in the corner and as everyone else has their own pc or laptop, I'm the only one who ever touches it so it makes more sense to me that the screen has cracked itself.
Anyone know anything about this? Or had a similar issue?
My Acer was a special price thing from Tesco so the cost of a replacement screen would probably be more than I paid for it originally. Unless anyone knows a cheap way to replace it?

Difficult to prove as you can appreciate
#I work in repairs myself and yesterday, had a Samsung NC10 and an Acer EeePC both with damaged LCDs (cracked/lines etc)
Customers were both saying there was no pressure/drop etc and to their point, there was no markings AT ALL on the casing
But inside was another story and there was signs of bending where pressure was evident on both.
There have been times where I have myself seen laptops crack in front of my eyes...It was down to "magnets" - we had left it near a speaker and overtime it happened.
I have also seen laptops suddenly occur with this issue overtime by just day to day use...screws are overtightned and as a result, there is not much flex allowed.
As I said, it will be difficult to prove it.0 -
Yes, I agree. I'm fully expecting to have to repair it myself or dump the thing but there does seem to be a common theme running with regard to many people saying the same thing.Herman - MP for all!0

What model is it? I can see if I can get hold of a screen cheaper than the normal places0

checked our stock and nothing in there - we tend to have lots of laptops with dead boards for instance but working screens and normally give the screens away for next to nothing
I do see them on ebay for around the £50 mark so it's not too bad -0 -
