Are there any good free alternatives to Synctoy?
I have been having trouble with Synctoy 1.4 and although it's now been upgraded to 2.0 Microsoft themselves are not promoting it with confidence.
'Important NAS and SyncToy 2.0 Information
Please note that there are known issues when using SyncToy 2.0 with a Home NAS. When using a NAS, there is a chance of file corruption. This issue will be fixed in an upcoming release. Unfortunately there are no known workarounds for this issue with SyncToy 2.0.'

I use synchronizeIt! and it is excellent.0

I know its not free, but I use SugarSync which stores all my sync'ed files on a central server and lets me access them over the internet as well as keeping them in sync across multiple laptops etc. The only downside is that its not free, but it is my network backup solution tooChris Elvin0

Yes but are they any good?
I don't want anything to go wrong with my back files so would prefer a trusted piece of software to do this job!
Thanks for the advice hc25036 and elvch01. I will have a look at them.0 -

Are you looking for Sync software, or just a good backup software package?
Although SyncToy is fine for Photo syncs and basic backups, it can't do anything but sync or echo - it's no substitute for a good incremental backup system.
Acronis True Image is probably the best backup application available about £30, and well worth every penny.0 -
Try allwaysync (google address as i can't post links yet!).. i been using it for some months and its great. Its free but if you are a heavy user then you are going to need to spash the £10 it costs. :rotfl:"If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy"

Martin - allwaysync looks good. Will give it a try - thanks0

FreeFileSync is an excellent alternative to SyncToy. It's more reliable (SyncToy always seemed to miss a tiny handful of files), quick & easy to use, and is open source too.0

I have an external hard drive which I use to back up all my files. I then use the same external hard drive to get my photos, music and video's to my media centre. That's why I need good sync software.
I have never been convinced by Acronis. Although it would be a pain if my hard drive failed, all my personal files are backed up so I would only lose time and the software that I got free with the computer!0 -
Yes, another vote for FreeFileSync. You will be impressed. And it is portable too.FreeFileSync is an excellent alternative to SyncToy. It's more reliable (SyncToy always seemed to miss a tiny handful of files), quick & easy to use, and is open source too.
Read the reviews (for older version):
