Bouncy castles have lost their appeal in our area and parents are looking at other ideas. I don't know of anyone who has hired one for a couple of years.

Stick to childrens only up to age 12-13 max,
and personally I would always check whether there was going to be a mix of ages, because one 12 year old with a bunch of toddlers (or vice versa) is an accident waiting to happen - at school events we used to alternate groups of little ones with groups of big ones for safety.
Hirers need to agree to supervise at all times, and to sign agreement to that effect, the company you buy your castles from will supply these.
And by supervise, you need to make clear that you mean watching, not hovering in the general area, downing several glasses of wine / beer etc. It's not a job for teenagers either, does need to be a responsible adult.

Ok so if they are not as popular as they use to be then what are people doing for the kids now? Hot tubs is a new one on me i didn't think kids would like that sort of thing.

Kids may not like hot tubs, but adults do.

I know someone who had a bouncy castle hire business, which did ok. But now he hires out hot tubs and makes twice as much.
  • Doesn't the water spill when your delivering it?;)

I have a 5 year old son, the main sort of parties that kids have now seem to be either parties at indoor activity centres (wacky warehouse sort of places) or parties at local leisure centres (football, swimming parties, etc.)

It is a lot easier to organise and probably costs about the same to have a party at one of those places, rather than to have to organise everything yourself and have a party at home.

People obviously do still make a living from hiring bouncy castles, but I reckon they will probably be the established businesses and it would probably be a hard market to earn decent money from at the moment.

    In winter, in a recession?

Have you looked at the cost of insurance?

    Next idea....

i hired a bouncy castle for my dauhters birthday on the 1st october and it was great, paid £85 for the day for a pirate ship and the kids loved it, when they came to pick it up they said they were booked in winter as well as people had parties indoors and could be booked for fairs and stuff.

yes insurance may be expensive but i wouldnt think to much about the recession, i set up my own business in the recession and im doing really well, if yoour in the right market people will still want your stuff, wouldnt be to temted to try setting up a car or estate agent business right now but people still want the smaller things in life and bouncy castle hire is now more reasonable than say a mcdonalds party and the kids have alot more fun.
back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed

A friend of my family atarted up a bouncy castle business in the eighties. It is now the largest bouncy castle manufacturing business in Europe and operated from Spain.

He started by hiring. Good luck, anything can happen if you put your mind to it.

Be wary in this climate though as I know the recession has hit this area very hard/
