If its of any interest Panorama are doing a piece on them tonight.
What 'European Open Border Policy' are you referring to? Ryanair accept EU Identity Cards as well as passports, so I'm struggling to see what 'policy' you're referring to.
Ryanair are also free to demand that people have passports to fly with them - it's entirely their choice and provided it isn't discriminatory, there's no problem. Of course, people will always quote 'man in the pub' laws in these situations.
Ryanair will have included the passport requirement in their terms and conditions from when it was first announced - so yes, still his fault. It appears in this case Ryanair change their terms and conditions AFTER the Op booked .....so still his fault? From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

Agreed, and confirmed by the fact that the story the OP feels backs up his case was actually published the day before he booked.
Gone ... or have I?0 -

You mean Schengen? That the ROI and the UK opted out of?
Ryanair can demand anything they want to fly.
If I started an airline flying from my house to the pub I could legally demand that all passengers present a copy of National Geographic with Katie Price on the front to board.
BBC Panaroma are doing a hatchet job this evening0 -
The one problem with the Panorama story is that they will undoubtably attract more people on here to COMPLAIN ABOUT RIPOFF SCAMS - even when plenty of people here with plenty of Ryanair experience have nothing but good things to say about them. I've just noticed that Ryanair have changed their travel insurance selection too - which is going to make Panorama look exceptionally stupid if they bring this up.
I'm still wondering what this 'European open border policy' is

Yip, I'm wondering too as I know that when I travelled through NI to ROI I didnt have to provide a passport (can you imaagine how many controls there would have to be?) but I know that if I get the ferry to France I would have to produce a passport. Last time I checked I lived in Europe even though we don't do everything the rest of the continent do!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!
