Gordon goes to the carboot sale!

When you are running out of cash, it's always worth having a quick look in the loft. Our dear Gordon has found a few things to keep the wolf from the door. God bless him.

The plan is to sell a "portfolio of non-financial assets" held by Whitehall and local authorities over the next two years.
They will include the Tote, Dartford crossing, the student loan book, the Channel Tunnel rail link and - having protected national security - the government's stake in URENCO.

Is he like a drunk in the casino, just about to be chucked out? Here take my house, my car keys, just let me play a little bit longer. I wish he would just go, before any more damage is done.

I think that's what we call the scorched earth policy.

Before I click the link, can I just say I how I would love it if this were really a story about Brown finding an old exercise bike, series 3 & 4 of 'Only Fools and Horses' on VHS and a couple of still-boxed Star Wars figures in the loft and sticking them on eBay.

:p You know, this is some way even worse than Privatisation (At least public get opportunity to buy shares in these companies) since they are selling off government assets to companies which only make money out of it. :( I am not happy to see that Student Loan book is to be sold off so my student loan payment through PAYE is going to some companies which bought them instead. :(
  • Yes you are right there Joe. Worse than privitisation. Come to think of it, just before Labour lost control of my local council, they sold off a lot of council buildings to private firms who now rake in tons of rent.

I,m just glad he didn't spot my stash of !!!!!! whilst he was up there.

I very cunningly hid it behind a collection of books about economics, I know he won't bother looking there....:D

Does selling off the student loan book scupper the tory plan to give a 10% discount to graduates paying back their loans early?

The prime minister will give details of initial sales that could raise £3bn - including the Tote, the Dartford crossing and the student loan book.

How much does that article read like something from The Daily Mash?

I might put in an offer for the Dartford crossing. £160k, no chain and we already have our mortgage sorted.
