JSA and IB JSA

Please could someone advise

How do you know what one to apply for?

How do I know if I have paid enough NI to apply for Contributions based

Or how do I know if I havent and am a low earner for IB JSA

It does not say anywhere what the amounts have to be, and if so then I can't find it anywhere

Anyone on it or applied that would know

Thankyou

no you cant apply for both at the same time. that would be fraudulent.

if you have been in work for most of the last 2 tax years you will be entitled to contributions based JSA. which most people are.

If not you can apply for income based which is means tested, this will take into account any savings you got (less that £16k) and any other income you or partner have coming in.
  • Ok thankyou, will TC take into account IB JSA

I have been told I have to apply for IB JSA because I am doing it with my family, therefore Contributions one I dont apply for

I also want to go self employed, to try and start up my business that i have plans for, how will this work with my IB JSA

Several people have said that Income Based JSA does not affect your tax credits can anyone clarify?

Which still leads to the question about my SE and having to give TC a figure for SE and then they pay me WTC according to them, its so confusing as I do not want to be paid WTC when I am on JSA however because I am SE or of I go SE they pay it, that cannot be right!!

    Thankyou

You can apply for both CBJSA and IBJSA at the same time and it is not fraudulant, they will not recieve 2x JSA payments at once.

It is not the last two tax years that are counted for CBJSA it is tax years 06-07 anf 07-08 that they look at.

You cannot get WTC if you work less than 16/30 hours and you can not get JSA if you work more than 16 hours so in theory you cannot get both yourself, though your partner could if working depending on what JSA you claim.

IBJSA does not affect TC though CBJSA does.

    Thankyou always on the go

I had to phone both TC today and JSA

I can claim JSA and be se

I can inform TC that I am SE but then we come across a hurdle because they will ask for an approx figure that I will earn for the tax year, doing this then makes them pay out an x amount of money in WTC

So although I am doing everything by law I still can get too much money because of how the Tax Credits sytems works with SE even though i will not eb working any hours for 3 months

So am I right in thinking that we could as a family put it into my partners name? She goes SE and then all should be ok should they pay any out in WTC that way we can still try and set up our business and take it from there

I am in a catch 22 situation being honest but it still backfires

Any help on this would be great as I want to get this sorted and dont see why I shouldn't try having a go at my own business

If you are claiming for JSA IB you should not be recieving WTC as you would be working 16 hours or over, you need to close this down 'if you are not working' otherwise you will be hit with a massive overpayment recovery later on.
