Changing from Npower E7 tariff

We have just doscovered we are being utterly fleeced by Npower as we seem to be on their Juice Economy 7 tariff which charges 23.5p per day rate unit for the first 728 or so, the 15p for all others. The night time rate is 4.3p, but to be honest, we can't really take having to put on the washing machine and slow cooker late at night. We also then have an E7 rate at 5.5p.

We had Economy 7 but took out the heaters and water boiler so we don't use any E7 at all now (only the heaters were wired into it).

Just wondering if we can change tariff within nPower without them coming to change the meter etc. We are currently paying almost double what everyone else is paying and it doesn't seem fair. We'd rather they didn't have to come out and change the meter as we are out at work all day and can't be at home during day time for them to do it.

Any hel much appreciated as we're terrified of the cost now.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

I changed from E7 with npower and you have to wait until the meter is changed. This took a couple of weeks in my case.

Indeed if you don't have the storage heaters now or use the E7 tariff for heating the water then it's a waste of time.

May not have to change the meter - you'll have 3 supplies. they can just alter the supply, I know when I looked about and looked at scottish Power they said it was no problem to switch and no meter change was required - but that could have been sales talk to get one to sign up!
  • Is there a cost involved in changing from an E7 meter to a normal one?

I just switched my meter from economy7 to a single tariff. I was not charged.

    I am with NPower.

    Hi j.baker,

Did npower insist on changing the meter or xould they just add the two readings toegther?

  • Npower appear to be pretty consistent in their approach to this.
I changed from E7 to standard in Jan of this year, they do not add the two readings together but insisted on a meter change, which was free of charge and all went smoothly.
I did however keep a close eye on the next bill to make sure the meter readings had been applied correctly.

Thanks NBG - that answers my question exactly.

Speaking of Npower... I'm 18 months down the line and STILL waiting for a bill!!

I've called them several times to offer my meter readings but they are unable to accept it!
Their ESTIMATEd readings each quarter have been the same reading as the previous!

I've noted when I called and E-mailed them over the past 9 months.
going to be a cracker of a bill when it does finally arrive. Incompetant to the extreme.

    Viper,

If you know what tariff you are on then check it is the cheapest on the market. If not I would write tio nPower saying that you want to switch but because of no bill you can not so you expect nPower to price your gas and electic from now on at the rate that you want to switch too.

I am sure nPower are infringing your human rights by not producing a bill to allow you to switch and the worry and stress that not knowing how large this bill will be and whether you can afford it is intolerable. Apparently a person called C Blair or Booth sometimes would have a field day over this.

I know how much I "owe" I only have electricity.

I don;t mind too much as 6 the rates dropped in Jan...so whatever I'm owing is at the "cheaper" rate.

I'm just ready to quote their terms and conditions regarding estimates. There should not be more than two estimates in a row..I'm on my 5th.....

I've tried multiple times to offer a reading but their automated system can't deal with 3 meter readings being on Super Tariff. Normal/E7/night rate + 2 hr E7 "booster" during the day.

I'm moving house soon, and looking forward to seeing what will happen as they seem incapable of accepting a reading from me!
I have the money set aside to pay just incase!

I've checked other Tarrifs on the market for our area- but none can offer the same rates - would be a none E7 tarrif. As I have no gas - this would cost a fortune regarding hot water, so E7 for me makes sense.
