i live in a two bedroom semi detatched house, its quite small, has a combi boiler.

it has 6 radiators (one is perminently off,)

im also on a prepay meter with british gas,

my house has a master bedroom, small bathroom and a small box room.

downstairs a lounge, smallish kitchen and a hallway

is there anyway of calculating the rough cost of heating my house??

  • The answer to your question is 'how long is a piece of string?'.

It depends on so many factors, including usage, tarriff, you are on prepay so automatically it costs more than the same person on a dual fuel DD, the house insulation.

Sorry thats not much help but it gives you some pointers as to how you can reduce your usage / cost :)

The most obvious thing to do is to take weekly readings, noting roughly how long you are using your central heating. Then convert the gas units used into a meaningful pounds and pence that you can relate too.

Your GCH will be the best / cheapest / safest way to heat a single room, use your TRV's on the radiators to moderate the temperature

As above, an easy way to record and cost up your energy usage is using this

I am single and I do this. I just heat the one room that I am in and I have the towel rail on in the winter to get the towels dry. Then if people come over I turn the other radiators on (if I know they are coming). Make sure you get an electric blanket for the bed on a timer and get a thick duvet.

You can just have the radiator on in the room you want warm and turn the others off.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
