Paying Mastercard through A & L website?

Does anybody know if it is possible to pay off credit card bills using the Alliance and Leicester website - it asks for a sort code and account number but afaik my HSBC mastercard does not have these thus making it impossible to pay over the website.

Am I missing something?

You are not missing anything. All credit cards don't have these data unlike debit cards, although they can usually be found on a CC bill (not on the HSBC one).

I pay several credit card bills online with A & L. The details (a/c number & sort code) can usually be found on the back of the cc statement. If not give HSBC a call and ask them!

I think we should start a post with all the account numbers and sort codes you know :)

It will be handy for some people.. Lloyds TSB has it all built in to their website.

Interestingly enough, I paid my HSBC card using the sort code and account number details on the BGC slip. They credited my account OK, but then sent me a letter saying I should have used the "correct" details. I faxed them back today (no e-mail address provided - d'oh) to point out that they don't PROVIDE the damned "correct" details.

Incidentally, the correct details for HSBC credit card payments are:

    40 42 46
    29004734
and reference number is your 16 digit card number.

I secure messaged HSBC asking for the 'correct' details, and was told...

    40-42-46
    99009787

...which are the same details as shown on the reverse of my statement under "International Payments".

I've made several payments using these details without any problems.

I'm uncertain why, but, the above a/c is printed on my HSBC statement as the one to quote yet the previous number gven above is the one provided by the 'create payee' automatic matching facilty on my Nationwide account (and I am sure the same look-up database is common to all current accounts). They have the same sort code and are presumably both valid collection accounts. I suspect that either works equally well.

Well, they clearly don't know their a*** from their elbow. The details I quoted, from the BACS slip, were 42-98-02 50298026 - heaven knows why those are NOT correct, but either of the two referred to above ARE correct.

I did think about using the "international payments" one but it didn't seem right to me for some reason.

    Numpties!
