The only thing I'd say about that is if you are getting a mortgage on, say, a standard 25-year term, your circumstances WILL fluctuate over that time period and so it's better to try and factor that in from the beginning. I didn't really appreciate that when we signed up for ours, but am wishing we had considered it a bit more now!

But totally understand that it's best to wait and see where you'll be in the first instance!!

Sure, I agree, and its one of those things where you take the stats and apply them to your own circumstances. :) DH's salary should, roughly double after March, should a place be available for him in London (he is advised thee is, but I guess recent history encourages us not to count our chickens). That sort of increase is never going to happen again, as far as I can tell, from one year to another, - though there will hopefully continue to be increases a doubling is retty rare, and so is likely to be the most significnt income change for us, should all go according to plan. we have other comlicating factors which I consider more ''those things that life does'' and while deserving f respect are less ''dramatic'' in their influence on timing.

We are in the high house price endgame now. All the governemt stimuless that has boosted the market the last 6 months. The government hasn't simply the money now and is desperatly cutting. For example they have scrapped training for the TA for six months when they need more troops for afghanistan.

Without the stimuless the market will fall to sustainable levels.

Is there any chance you can come to Manchester and chant your rhetoric at the Estate Agents and house purchasers / sellers here? They are all merrily selling and buying houses at silly money.

I'll pay for your train and you can sleep in our spare room if you like.

Unfortunately me and the Mrs have quite an equal partnership, with each of our opinions meaning a lot to each other. We listen to each other and would only buy a house that both of us loved.

I think to get on that programme I would need to have my balls chopped off and become a snivelling wuss with no opinion. Mrs C would need to become a lot more horsey and dominating. We'd also need to make sure we get pregnant during filming or imediately afterwards, and that isn't in our plans.

Having said that, I'd love to have a good look at some guttering with Phil.

They do take on some couples with good relationships. Your best bet is to be looking for something weird. There was a lovely couple a few years ago who wanted a paddock for their camels, for example. Could you and Mrs Cleaver get some exotic animals with bizarre housing needs?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

May be looking at this will make your prices seem more reasonable - and we are talking provincial town not Greater London.
