How about pasta necklaces? We paint macaroni and thread it through wool. It passes an hour or so and is good for hand eye co-ordination too.0

cook it in a large pan over a meduim heat - you'll know when its done. leave to cool
i second the cornflour (oobleck) generally i mix 1 part water with 2 parts cornflour. add glitter/food colouring to it as well. great thing is if it starts to go hard you can just keep adding water to it.
Just used this recipe to make 2 batches, and could get quite obsessed about making it! How much fun!? And it makes loooooooads thank you0
