Can I ask seller for BIN even tho' there's a bid?

I've seen something on eBay that I'd love to buy DH for Christmas, but it already has one bid on it. I suppose 'don't ask, don't get', but is it against the rules?

It isn't allowed really and with a bid in already I'm not sure why the seller would even entertain the idea. Two eager bidders are much mor elikely to push the price up than a single BIN, why not just bid your max and see what happens?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If the item's got a bid already, the seller won't be able to add a Buy it Now price. Some sellers may retract the other person's bid to add a BiN price if the offer's lucrative enough, though.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Thanks folks - I had a feeling it was wrong to ask! I'll delete it from my watched items tho' until the day it finishes so I can bid without DH seeing it!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

theres no harm in asking tbh as someone booted other bidders for us recently, happens quite a lot if the offers good (but usually you gotta pay above the odds... so if its worth it then ask them!)0

I asked for a BIN price on a dress recently that had a bid on it -as long as you are the highest bidder, the seller can end item and sell to you at the agreed price and adjust invoice - althought strictly speaking this circumvents fees and is not really fair. Serves me right, as someone else offered more and I lost out anyway - lol
Personally I would certainly ask if it is a rare/wanted item - If you dont, someone will !0
