Hmmm ... Why would anyone bid more than an item is worth? (RRP wise)

Does anyone have any idea why/how this would happen? Seems a bit weird to me and I'm trying to question the bidders motives...
I am auctioning a cosmetic item, brand new. The auction is currently at almost triple the RRP of the item, despite there being link in the auction description to the manufacturers website where you can actually purchase the item at a third of the price (including P&P)?!
Do you think the bidders have just not bothered to check the link?
Not complaining, but I do hope they don't check the link after the auction and then decide not to pay.

I think some people get caught up with "I want it" rather than "is this item worth what I am bidding?" OTOH, (s)he may just not be bothered about cost. There's nowt so queer as folk as the old saying goes.candyflossing wrote: »Does anyone have any idea why/how this would happen? The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

hmmm, dunno, I had this with some perfume, it went for 6 times what I paid for it, hadn't realised but was hard to get hold of now. Are the bidders overseas? It is a british item that is not internationally available, except at exorbitant cost?0

If you live in an area where the item isn't available you may pay more. I live in a remote area and some items we cannot get. If i want something it is sometimes cheaper to by it from ebay at more than RRP than straight from the company with there postage fees0

the rrp is only the recommended retail price whiuch the manufactor suggests to charge0

This happened to me on ebay. I sold a dvd boxset that the original rrp for was £35 (i think) but was available of Play and Amazon (free P and P) for £13. Mines went for just under £20. Just shows it pays to do some research.0

I think a lot of bidders don't do a lot of research. I have sold quite a few things for more than RRP.
I wonder if it might also be because they want to use paypal. I recently bought an item on ebay for a couple of quid more than it was on the official website. The reason I did this is because I wanted to use my paypal balance rather than my credit card (plus I've had problems with the shoddy customer service on the official website). I wouldn't pay three times the price like your buyer though!0 -
I was once watching a Radley travel pass holder that was described as used. It went for over £22 with £4 P&P. However, a quick search threw up several identical items that were brand new with tags for £15 and free postage.
I have also spotted a Weird Fish jacket that is listed for £42 plus £4 P&P - yet the item is available from the manufacturers website for £50 plus free P&P. For the sake of £4 I would rather buy from the manufacturers website and have complete confidence in my purchase and the ability to get a complete refund without having to incur postage charges if the item doesn't fit.
Finally, I sold an item that also went for more Boots would charge.

You have a point- some people want to use up their balance rather than wait on it clearing into their bank, and of course there is also the same thing as vouchers- if a benefits claimant is running a business then they don't want the money to be traceable, so they buy stuff on ebay with what they earn from ebay. This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

some people just dont check further than ebay, we looked at the 'kota triceratops' on ebay and thered about £200 but in argos only £150 brand new (maybe a good little earner for someone at the moment?)0
