How do i cancel my Fitness First contract

Wasn't sure where to put this :/

Basically i joined a while ago on the 28th. It's a flexi membership and not a 12 month contract.

I want to cancel my membership, but they say i have to give 4 weeks notice. I accept i have to pay on 15th, but why should i pay for two months? I am over 30 days away from the next month when the direct debit comes out.

I also have to fill in a cancellation request before i leave, which puzzles me because i have to fill in one of those as well as write a written notice. Again didn't say that on the contract. It just says write a cancellation request letter. Also it doesn't say anything about having to visit the club and book an appointment in order to cancel the contract.

I've just read things also about them taking unauthorised direct debits from peoples bank accounts. I wish i could have found this info before i joined :(

Has anyone any experience in dealing with them? It really scares me reading things from people around the world about how hard they are to leave and how dodgy they are.

How can i ensure they don't take any unauthorised direct debits? Can the bank stop them?

Do you have a copy of your contract?

Don't see the problem with filling out a cancellation request.
Ask them what to do,send any post recorded delivery and email too.

Yes i do have a copy of my contract. I have booked an appointment with the cancellations manager (or whatever her title is). This si probably the equivalent of retentions. I just don't want to pay for two months. They ask for 4 weeks notice, but does this mean before the next DD comes out?

One thing that has made me feel cheated is the membership starting date. It says i started 20/09/09 when i joined 28/09/09.

You can only ask them why that error has happened, see what they say.Unfortunately,if they dispute it,you have signed it,unless you have any other way ofdisproving it?
  • Just write to them 'recorded delivery' from todays date that you would cancel the direct debot and request them to raise an invoice for the days not covered by your d/d.
    Isn't it that simple?
I did this many moons ago.
