Can anyone recommend somewhere I could get a wide shallow mortar and pestle like the one that Nigel uses in this show? I really need a new one, current is tiny and his looks really big and easy to use...

I saw some in the oriental supermarket the other week they were about 10 - 12" across.(Looked very heavy). Unfortunatley no use to me as my hands are rubbish so I'm using a coffee grinder.0

haven't seen the show myself but Amazon UK have about 204 different ones! You can often pick up nice ones in TK Maxx if you've one near you too0

Just to say, TK Maxx is a discount home and clothing store, rather than an oriental supermarket

damn people replying when I am typing-makes me look thick;):o
Yeah I love TK maxx, am always in there, but I have only ever seen the really deep mortars in there, not the wide shallow ones, will keep looking, the amazon one I linked to was one of 2 shallow ones, both over £80, so may just have to settle for deep one rather than shallow unless can find bargain....0 -
ahh sorry, was the only way your post made sense after mine! Don't worry,Ido the same thing a lot!
Have you tried Ebay? There's almost always someone there that has what you want!0 -
I think the one you linked to is actually the brand Nigel Slater has, see here http://www.kitchenaria.com/Pestle-and-Mortars/Kitchen-Essentials/kitchenware_763.html. I really like it as well.0

I wish I could persuade someone to buy me it for my birthday, only problem is I don't actually have space to put it anywhere, all my pans are currently stacked 3 high in a pan drawer (amazing that it is still on its runners actually, with 2 large le creuset casseroles, and 7 or 8 solid stainless steel or circulon pans too) and 4 high in a cupboard under the boiler..... Hmmm who needs worktop space anyway0
