compulsory water meter

Yep Three Valleys are trying to enforce a meter on my house which I just moved into. Quick look on Ofwats website states the Law http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/aptrix/ofwat/publish.nsf/Content/i_have_moved_into_a_new_home giving the water company the right to install one when there is a change of occupation. I am interested in what Philip624 said where he didn't give the company who actually fit the meter access (as they contract that part out).
Has anyone else tried this approach with any success? And Philip624 if you read this, did you contact the company who wanted access or did you simply not reply to there letters? I think this is my only option. I don’t want a water meter (but I am careful with my water usage anyway).0 -
I just moved into a house in the 3 valleys area and was contacted about a water meter. They sent us two letters: one saying that they were going to fit a meter and would contact us to give notice. Then the second one gave us notice and also said that if we wanted to object to ring such and such number. We didn't object as we were pleased with the meter.
However, I am surprised OP that they fitted one the day you moved in. We've been in our house for 2 weeks now and the meter is still not fitted. Plus, as mentioned above, they have to give notice. What did I do at work before I discovered MSE?!

Sorry I have not read all repies as I dont have the time.
I just wanted to say we are a family of 7 and had the same problem when we moved thankfully after much stress on my part and a water board that cared not the foor path at the fronf of my house was thankfully not suitable for a meter! howver if it had been as I have 3 school age childrena and gte more than the £10.45 basic tax credit then I would of been allocated a tarrif that would mean I would not pay more that the advage water bill in my area, whatever that mean. I was told I have not choice but to have the meater there was not way of getting out of it.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0
