Comparing costs of BT to TalkTalk

I get home phone and b/band from BT (unlimited downloads). I pay approx £40 a month for this.
Talk Talk are offering me a deal that would take my bill to just under £18 a month. That's BT line rental £11.25 per month adn Talk Talk b/band 40GB download alllowance, free local calls, unlimited evening and weekend calls to landlines.
I'm out of contract with BT very soon and I can't see how BT can compete with this cost. I do need a good download allowance because i work from home on the net and my work can involve heavy download amounts. As far as I'm aware, BT charge about £25 month just for broadband and line rental is in addition to that.
Does anyone know what BT's best price would be at the moment?

£35.71 after the first 3 months (18 month contract) - see HERE.
'Free' local calls are not included though, just evening and weekend.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I did look at that page but found it confusing because I wasn't sure if line rental was included in those prices. I see from the total you've calculated that it isn't included.
Thank you.
TalkTalk is a lot cheaper, but I'm worried about customer service. There again, as a BT customer for over 20 years with very few problems previously, I've recently started having major problems with their customer service too.0 -
BT will offer a reduced price deal to stay with them.
