dreamland faulty electric blanket - problem with guarantee

I have an 18 month old luxury electric blanket (about £40 worth) sent back to dreamland under their 3 year guarantee as it is faulty.

has cost me £8 to post it to them on the proviso that they will pay the postage cost back to me.

under the guarantee it states "we undertake to repair or replace free of charge any parts found to be defective"

i have today received a letter back from dreamland advising that "after initial inspection we consider the blanket is suitable for repar/service for £32.50 incl P&P cheques made payable to Leda products"

I am going to phone the company on monday and demand a free repair but where else can i go with this issue if i get an unsatisfactory response based on them still in receipt of my property?

any advice welcome :j

  • as long as you can prove it is within the warranty, basically with the original till reciept, then you are fine. if you can't, then they are within their right to charge an inspection fee and for return postage.

as well as my electric blanket they also have my original copy of the till receipt confirming it is within the 3 year time period.

i think they are trying it on as there is no mention of the free replacement of defective parts in their recent letter. they seem to be trying to get me to pay for this work which i find very disappointing.

would trading standards be the next course of action i f i get an unsatisfactory reply?

An old post but it was meant to be www.imetec.co.uk which appears on the label of a Dreamland electric blanket I have which also does not work.

That link no longer works which shows the level of support from this company. They do have a 0870 rate support number which people are expected to call every time their blanket goes into lock down and refuses to warm up because it was switched off before being turned down. There is a complex reset sequence that is needed to re-activate the blankets which is not included in the instructions and not even a mention of what would happen if it is not used directly as instructed.

The last time it did it on mine, I could not get it re-activated so had to go and buy a different brand blanket....Dreamland - Never again!

I wouldn't recommend these blankets to anyone, it's a horrible company making products which are designed for high rate support assistance. The OP's problems when dealing with this company don't surprise me.
  • I would agree. We have got seven of these blankets and they have been unreliable. Changed them at argos under so called warranty. When they worked, they were great. New ones are no where near as good.
