Round the world travel insurance + skiing

Hi everyone,
We are planning a 4-month round the world trip which is going to include 10 days' skiing. We've run into a bit of a problem with travel insurance so I'm wondering if anyone can help.
4-month insurance policies with winter sports seem to be ridiculously expensive (to be honest, they're bad enough without winter sports), but I'm guessing this is because they're covering you for up to 4 months of solid winter sports. As we're only going to be doing 10 days this seems a bit of a waste of money if it can be avoided.
We've looked at buying a 4-month non-winter sport backpacker's policy and then a separate short-duration winter sports policy. This comes in much cheaper, but all of the skiing policies I've seen include the condition that your trip must start and end in the UK - we won't be doing this for the skiing leg.
Can anyone suggest a way round this? Is there an insurer that will just cover X days' winter sports (i.e. only the winter sports themselves, without the other cover you normally get with travel insurance like cancellations, baggage, etc)? Does anyone know of an insurer that'll sell us round-the-world insurance including 10 days (only) winter sports? Is there another solution we've not thought of?
Many thanks for your help,
Gareth

Do you return to the UK at any point during the 4 months?0

Can't answer your question, but you could try posting on the Snowheads forum, where lots of snow sports enthusiasts can be found. Perhaps someone there will have come across this situation. http://www.snowheads.com/
Have a fab trip!0
