Rail Travel - Advanced tickets- a Myth!

Last year i was able to get advance tickets for travel, this year as a student i have not been able to get advance tickets at all, i can get 1 waybut not on the return trip. i am looking from a couple of days, to a week, to several weeks in advance and using both the option of student rail card or just with out. There is no option to buy the advanced ticked which i think is unfair when they advertise it. anyone got any ideas on this.

You start by saying that they don't exist - then you say you can get them one way - hardly a "myth", then !

The problem is that sites like MSE have have made far more people aware what bargains can be had with advance tickets. All you can do, I'm afraid is just try to book earlier.
Additionally, with more people travelling by train the TOCs may be actually releasing fewer advance tickets as well.
You are normally very lucky to get advance tickets "a couple of days" in advance, unless it is on a very remote, lightly used route.

Try "splitting" your journey - useful savings can be made that way.

I went first class to London for £34 each way on Advance tickets this week, only booked a couple of weeks ago, they do exist but not on all trains and all routes.
