Market Cross Jewellers - rip off

Options
I took my Tag watch to Market Cross Jewellers for a new battery. I was told that they had to send it off to Tag - which is standard practice as I understand, but the cost to do so was £65.00. I questioned this, but they told me they make nothing from it and the prices were set by Tag.

I decided to shop around and was told by them that it wouldn't be cheaper anywhere else.

Low and behold the next shop I went into only charged £35.00 for the same service.

I don't mind if MCJ jewellers where going to make money to provide a service - fair enough... just don't appreciate being lied to - I feel they are very dishonest....

Rant over....

I think that £35 seems too cheap and even £65 seems a little low. It does depend though what you are getting for your money. Does the price include a Tag service or is it purely a new battery and reseal?

My 4 yr old Tag hasn't needed a new battery yet so I haven't searched round too much for prices.
A quick scout around online today found this one at £80.00 : http://www.chealwatch.co.uk/Tag/Tag.htm

This is what I would want/expect for a £1k+ watch.

If you have got the full deal for £35 then well done but you'll probably only be able to tell if you get a Tag authorised repair/service certificate back with it or it survives a few dives in a swimming pool!

£35 for a Tag seems far to cheap to me, my Breitling costs about £250 for a battery change and basic service, its really not worth scrimping on when youve spent so much on a decent watch.

I'd be wary of the £35 offer...they'll probably just attempt to do it on the premises (could be wrong), and there will be no guarantee that the watch wont be re-sealed after the new battery has been put in. Much better to pay more and have it sent away, safe in the knowledge that the battery replacement and re-seal will be done properly!

    Hmmm.
The replies from wolfsong2000, matty538 and PeteMc indicate that the OP MAY have been ripped off - but by the second jeweller, not the one named in the title.

My goodness that is cheap! I used to work for a jewelers - not Beaverbrooks, though, and you would have been charged *at least* £70 odd, quite possibly more. Well done Beaverbrooks! I have to say I am a big fan of them as their stuff seems to be excellent quality and reasonably priced. Would definitely choose them over just about any other highstreet jeweler for jewelery...not a big watch geek, though :D

I have asked in two jewellers, one was Goldsmiths, can't remember the other (in Cabot Circus in Bristol) - both said £45 to return it to Tag.
That includes a seal test as well.
