London Eye offers

Hi,
Sorry if this is in the wrong place!

I'm taking my Dad up to London next month to surprise him for the Fleetwood Mac show. He hasn't been to London in about 15 years and I'd really like to take him on the London Eye but didn't realise it was so expensive! 17.50 each, with a bit of a discount if I buy them online.

I was talking to a friend at work yesterday who is originally from London, he told me that if I go to the London Aquarium to buy my tickets for the Eye they offer 2 for 1? He said they were offering this a few months ago. Can anyone confirm wether this is true or if they still offer this deal? If so, can I preorder them online as I'm taking a bit of a risk if I wait til' the day (7th Nov 09) and find they no longer offer this deal or the Eye is fully booked.

Failing that, does anyone know of the cheapest way to get 2 adults on the Eye? I had a look through the tfl.gov.uk site to see if buying an Oyster card would help us but couldn't find any info. I'll probably still pay full price if there are no deals, but having already paid for transport, accomodation and tickets, plus whatever we'll spend in London over the 2 days, I'm hoping to save as many pennies as I can!

Thanks everyone!

  • I can't say I have seen any offers for the LE in the 5 months I've been back in London. I would consider it for my daughter (I've not been on it either) but she is perhaps too young and it is rather an expense.

I went to the aquarium some years ago and thought that rather overpriced even then.
  • Thanks for your post! I've already decided that I'll still pay full price if an offer doesn't come up soon. The view is pretty amazing from up there and it's not often I get my Dad up to London.

There's 10% discount if you book online. Not much, I know, but better than nowt. Doh! Just reread your orginal post!

According to the website you now also get free entry to the 4D experience. I don't know what that's about but I should allocate a little more time for that if I were you.

Have a great time with your Dad!
  • Thanks Zenmaster! It seems as though the 4D experience is a 3D cinema with added effects such as smoke or bubbles to enhnce the experience further. Well, thats what I gathered from the link you posted anyay! If the cost of the Eye tickets cover it then we'll definitely check it out!

Hopefully we'll have a blast! He has absolutely no idea that we're going though which should make the weekend more fun for him! I've told him to book the 6th & 7th off work & not to make plans with anyone so he knows we're doing something but has no clue what that'll be! I'm just gonna drive over & wake him up really early on the morning of the 6th and just tell him to get dressed cos we're going out! The coach stops at Heathrow on the way up to London so for a laugh I'm gonna act as if heathrow is our stop and ask if he's got his passport! Of course, I'll pretend to be all panicked when he says no!:rotfl:

Post back and let us know if it's any good.

    Will do! I'm sure it'll be entertaining.
Yeah, I know I'm mean, but it's the kind of joke my Dad would play on me, so as soon as I'm finished acting as if our "holiday" is ruined, I'm sure he'll see the funny side!
  • Just wanted to let people know that I was in London a couple of days ago and was gonna go into the Aquarium to ask about the 2 for 1 offer but decided against it when I saw the massive queue!
There were posters outside though promoting a double entry ticket costing about £34 for entry to both the Aquarium and the London Eye. Not really what I had in mind but thought I should post it just to clear up the 2 for 1 question I asked earlier.
  • I have looked at tickets for this month - have seen them on last minute but they are 25 a ticket (the tickets where you don't need to queue). Are they cheaper anywhere?

The official London Eye site is selling the Fast Track tickets, where you don't need to queue, for £24.30. Not a huge difference I know but still a little cheaper. You'd have to pay for delivery of the tickets though or you can collect them from the desk for free, but that would involve queuing up! Here's a link to the ticket pricing page:

I ordered the standard tickets for my Dad and I today, £31.50 for both of us. Collecting tickets from the desk because there's not enough time to have them delivered.

Okay, so we went up on friday, my Dad had no clue what we were up to til' we got off the tube at Wembley and people were selling Fleetwood Mac hats and scarves! Had a brilliant day out, got completely soaked in the rain when we got to Wembley and then afterwards went out and got absolutely obliterated!. You know what I'm talkin' about!

So, the next morning... In quite a state, we dragged ourselves up early for breakfast to make it to the Eye by 10 cos a lot of tube lines were closed. Incredibly, the torrential rain from the night before had completely cleared and we had beautiful sunshine, perfect weather for the Eye!
Afterwards we popped in to see what this 4D Experience was all about, and all I can say is "wow"! If anyone turns down the opportunity to see this they'll be missing out big time! Besides, it only takes about 10 minutes in total! I've never seen 3D imaging so incredibly clear and realistic in my life nor has my Dad! There's a seagul flying around the many London attractions and landmarks, it really looks like it's hovering in front of your face, as if you could reach out and touch it! Then you've also got fireworks and fireballs to dodge and snow falling around you! I barely noticed the 4D side of things, a bit of smoke around your feet and some water that gets squirted on you but I'd say it's worth it just for the amazing 3D images and in a way, I think we both actually enjoyed this more than the Eye itself!

Hope that helps anyone thinking of planning a trip soon! Thanks to everyone that read along and offered their advice. Cheers everyone!
