Should it be ok to cut the grass now, if I put the lawnmower on its highest setting?

It'll be fine. I cut mine throughout the winter too if it needs it (although it's not very often, perhaps once a month). A golf-course groundsman once told me it was perfectly safe. He said if he didn't continue cutting the grass, he'd get the sack.0

It's never too late to cut the grass. Just pick a dry, mild day. Keep cutting as long as it keeps growing.0

Last year I saw people cutting grass in December. I had given up by the beginning of November.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I keeping cutting mine on the highest setting, when it needs it, until it stops growingI have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Booker T Washington

Neighbour and I were only talking about this last night. She remembers we both cut our lawns late November last year, and if the excellent growing conditions (sun and rain) we have atm continue it looks like it's going to be a repeat.0

I cut my lawn in December last year too, I must admit though I have thing about grass and grass cutting, I hate to see it unslightly and not mowed.
My neighbour always comments on how I shouldn't mow the lawn in the winter months, but then comments on how lovely the lawn is in the spring, never done my lawn any harm, infact the only time I didn't mow last year/this year was when it snowed.0 -
If the daytime temperature is over 5 degrees, the grass will grow so it will need cutting.
I have just given my lawn its final 'short' cut and have re-set the height of the blade ready to use the mower if needed through the coming months, as someone else has said, the neighbours comment on how daft it is to cut the grass through the winter months but I like to compare my grass in the spring to their patch of weeds.0
