When I popped in to a local Somerfield they had A5 posters up saying that to get offers you no longer need a savercard.
Makes no difference to me as I never registered mine in the first place.

I used to hand mine over every time I shopped there but never got anything for it so I could never see the point in doing it. Not surprised they have got rid of it.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

In our Somerfield they kept a spare savercard by the till so everyone got the special offers available for savercard users anyway. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

yeah, same at ours - seemed to be a complete waste of time really.0 -
The Co-op are changing their dividend card too, instead of accumulating money you now accumulate points, how many points you have at the end of the period determines how much you are going to get. It's now linked to the profit the Co-op makes so the more you shop there the more you will be contributing to your own dividend as you will be increasing the Co-ops profits.0

I only use to go in for the special offers anyway. But as I said never registered my card anyway. So they had no details for me. But the card kept working :rotfl:
As I think somerfield are way too expensive apart from some items in the basic range like porridge oats at 39p a packet.

Good. It was a pathetic system. I used to ask for one when everytime I bought something that required it to get the offer and then threw it in the bin on the way out. Damned if I was going to carry another bit of plastic.0

Here come the scissors! Never went there much anyway but our Kwik Save is just in the process of changing over to Somerfield - dont think it will last long though as there are rumours that a big Asda will be opening up in the near future.0

And I wonder how much they paid some hair brain marketing company to come up with that idea for them...My recollection was being in a horrendous long queue where somebody had tried to buy stuff on special offer that needed the card and was busy filling the form in at the till!!
Anybody could have told them it was a TOTAL AND WASTE OF SPACE! GOOD RIDDANCEThe Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -
Now there's a strange thing - our Kwik Save is in the process of changing back to a Somerfields (it was originally a Somerfields, then became a KS, and now's changing back)!BargainJunky wrote:Here come the scissors! You do have to wonder who's bright idea it was. As far as I could see it just annoyed people and I couldn't see the value in it for the company.
Tesco's Clubcard is a different kettle of fish completely. Customers get cashback on all purchases so they are happy and the company can spy into the intimate shopping habits of it's customers, the information thereby gleaned being of fantastic value for planning and marketing. Somerfields card didn't even need registering, or at least not with genuine details. As far as I can tell no details of shopping habits was recorded either.
Totally stupid. My conspiracy theory is that Tesco bribe management of their rivals to make bad decisions. For example 3 weeks before Morrisons took over Safeway the Safeway management implemented a crap new stock control system. Why did they do that? There was absolutely no reason except to damage Morrisons. Very suspicious.Joe
