189,000 gas units high?

Options
I am trying to gauge just how much heating and hot water you'd have to use in three months to use 189,000 gas units, any ideas?

Depends whether you are talking metric (cu mtrs), or imperial (100s cu ft) gas units.

    • Multiply your units used by 2.83 to give you the number of cubic metres of gas used. (If you have a new meter measured in cubic metres you do not need to do this).
    • Multiply by the temperature and pressure figure (1.02264).
    • Multiply by calorific value (39.25)
    • Divide by 3.6 to get the number of kilowatt hours (kWh)
189000 is not correct, You should either have a 4 or 5 figure value, you should ignore the red digits.

  • 189000 is what British Gas said we had used, I have the gas man coming round next week to check out the boiler etc, though the months after we got the massive bill everything calmed down was about 4-5000 units p/m

Are you a business? - a factory perhaps?

189,000 gas units will cost in the region of £65,000 or £170,000:eek:

Even if the units were kWh they would still cost about £6,000.
  • That is what it says on our online account, I cannot do a screen shot because BG says that we left them 6 months ago and can no longer access our account, I think it maybe because we are switching over to a metre, still with BG.

Unfortunately we are not a factory, just a 3 bed mid terrace

Oh yeah, we also used about 8000kwh of electric in a 24hr period... apparently.

I think you (or BG) must be reading the meters wrong Dave. As above, most domestic meters only have 4 or 5 digits.
If you really had used that many units, they wouldn't know, it would just look like 89,000 units (still v scary) as once it reaches 99,999 it goes back to 00,000.
Metric meters have 3 digits that are ignored (either in red, or if LCD, surrounded by red).

8000 Kwh a day!! thats about 4 years worth for me.
Your not doing a bit of indoor horticulture by any chance or could the neighbours have tapped into your supply?
