Vodafone (long post)

I don't know if this is the right place to post but heregoes....

My daughter received a letter from Vodafone on 8th August saying "thank you for taking out a contract blah blah blah...".

She phoned them up the same day to ask about the letter as she has a contract with Orange and had not taken out the contract.

The person she spoke to advised her they would pass it on to the Fraud department and she should contact her bank to cancel the direct debit that had been set up in her name and the Fraud department would be in contact with her. She left telephone numbers for home and her mobile.

She contacts Vodaphone a couple more times as they had not responded. They were looking in to it.

She contacted them again yesterday as she had received another letter saying she owed over £160 for "her" phone bill and if she did not pay there would be a cancellation fee of nearly £1,000. The lady she spoke to gave her details of what the Fraud department had done.

Contract taken out on 5th August
Daughter contacted on 8th August
Fraud phoned the mobile phones that had been taken out in her name and "the person could answer the security questions and said they knew my daughter therefore she is responsible for the bill".

Daughter asked the following (their responses in red)
- why they would phone the mobile when she had said they had been taken out fraudulently
wanted to find out who had the phone!!!!
-where were the phones taken out
a store
what store and where
don't know
what ID did they use (should point out here that daughter lost her passport)
don't know it does not say but you are liable as they know you
as they say they know me I am responsible for the phone bill
yes
so I could take out a phone in your name and you would accept the contract as I have spoken to you and therefore know you
no that would be fraud

She has got the address for head office to write to them but with the imcompetence already shown by the Company is there anything else we can do?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • As long as you can confirm you did not take out the contract, you shouldn't sweat it. Vodafone are in the wrong, so as long as you keep telling the truth, you shouldn't worry.

It was an official letter and we asked which store it was taken out at as surely the sales consultation would have to be paid commission for the sale but they did not have that information. Will ask them to look in to it further and check the CCTV when I do the letter today.

    Thanks for the responses

  • OP, don't worry - Voda aren't that good.

I reported an unsolicited text from a Vodafone-issued mobile number and they came back and said "it's not a company phone", so I've gone back and said that it was a company and who the name is.

So, I'll have to see what they say to that (didn't say much good about them in the "how did we do?" survey).

    Hi Halfpint,

I understand that this thread was posted over a month ago, we are currently working on getting more staff on the boards so that our response time is shorter. Apologies for any delay.

I am very disappointed to hear that this has happened to your daughter. Has the matter now been resolved? If not I would like to begin looking into it right away.
