Just to say, Asda does extremely well on size 16+....sells masses of larger sizes and offers most styles in them too...unlike M + S who still make majority of fashion lines up to 16.

In the late 80's, it was quite cool to shop in M + S for a looky likey Helmut Lang camel coat or Margaret Howell type super T Shirt....and I was a bright young thing back then. Also, menswear, I rememeber everyone buying oversized slouchy merino V Necks from their mens dept.
The quality was far better back then as they used to have contracts with top UK manufacturers like Burberry, John Smedley who produced much of the label for them.

Lets be honest it was only going to be a matter of time. M & S are lack lustre, nowt there other than socks/ boxers for me.
Bought a Polo shirt from Asda the other night a fiver, not for best just every day, best comes from Next. Noticed boot cut jeans six quid in Asda. Best jeans I bought in recent times were Primark, again usually Next gets my business.
When I wear all Blue harbour someone shoot me please. Thankyou.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

It's for when the big birds have fought off the competition and scoffed all the 5p pastys etc they can get some cheap clobber, you wouldn't see it at M & S.
Also I would say we are into the last remnants of the blue rinse brigade @ M&S. You don't see them in Asda

I feel that I should clarify that I'm not being one of these annoying holier than thou people. It's so difficult to know what you're buying, where it's made etc. etc. I'm sure I buy stuff made by children every now and again when not realising, partly due to me just not paying attention. And I can understand the occassional small business selling things without realising.

But Wal-Mart (ASDA) are one of, if not the, biggest and richest companies in the world. They have no excuse to selling stuff that was made by kids earning 63p a a day. Which is why I don't shop there.

Thanks for the info. It is difficult to always know, I agree. My Dad always says you just have to do your best where you can, and I am inclined to agree with him! I will try to wait for sales at better shops to buy clothes in future, wherever possible. I have just checked my George jumper & it says "made in China" on it, so I hope that means its okay-ish!

T b h I do try and avoid buying things made in China but it's not easy.
I had an appointment at the hospital this week and was nosing at the equipment whilst waiting and most of it was made there or thereabouts.

Are you really me? I am really curious to know where things are made too. Within my own sector, I know a lot, but anything else, like a dustapn and brush, I am as clueless as anyone else.

I am the laydee in Selfridges trying to work out where the truly overpriced wrinkle cream is made...as I heard they were made in China from all sorts of nasty animal entrails and the like....course, I didn't say that to the counter asst, who glowed ....not due to the cream but because she was 24.

I'm curious as to whether you've read this yet fc... I've been reading it and very much enjoying the insight into clothes imported from China

  • I like Asda for clothes because they have a free name tag sewn in.

I love ASDA's clothes, I like the ranges, I'm sat here in my ASDA jumper and nice and snug and warm and don't need to put the heating on, only cost £12 and its lovely, I could of knitted one but I can't knit. My bad. M&S is brilliant for underwear (the actually do my size for starters so thats a bonus!) ASDA is rubbish for underwear though and wouldn't fit my nipples in their underwear, I wish they'd cater for the "larger lady".
I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!

OMG I love that book...I lent it to son and he took a lot of the info on board too. The writer is from Sussex, but lives in NZ now and I got a signed copy as he did a local promo some time back.

He never really got to the bottom of the where the rubber for the elastic came from did he?
