Two bed terraced house elec cost

Hi,
I am currently paying £42 direct debit (monthly) for combined gas and electric. Does that seem about right or do you think I could get cheaper?- I am scared to switch unless the direct debit price changes dramatically, being on a strict budget. Thanks in advance

Are you sure your payment is covering your usage?
We were in a 2 bed terrace and in order to cover the bill we were paying £130 a month .0 -
Yes it does cover it, there is only me in the house, so washing only goes on once a week, lights are off except for where I am and I am often away at weekends so everything is off then.Debt busting 2022 Total £15842.68 £0 (100% paid since 1/1/22)

£130 a month in a 2 bed terrace is very high. My projected usage is less than that for a 3 bed detached house, and that's based on using 27670 kWhs gas and 4880 kWhs of electricity. My usage is certainly above the 'average' as defined by Ofgem, I but be looking to slash your payments to under £100 a month easily.
As to the op, you need to ring your current supplier up and ask for the last full years kWh figures for gas and electric. Then go to energyhelpline and enter your figures into their comparison charts. Do not use your DD payments to compare prices, as they won't give a accurate list.0 -
Whilst you probably use less energy in a terraced house then most other types of housing for same people living in them, I think £42 is very low for both, are you sure you are not accruing some debt?
We pay double that for 4 of us in a semi and I try and cut down where I can, when we lived in a 2 bedroom terraced 2 and a bit years ago without the price hikes of last year we were still paying about that and when had a modern condensing boiler0 -

Very similar to me - I'm a single person in a 2 bed terraced house and use just under £45 combined per month. I monitor my usage my reading the meters every week.
I know that I could reduce mine by £5 - £10:
a) if I bought a new fridge-freezer - current one uses 2 kwh/day running continuously due to a broken thermostat;
b) if I wasn't at home all day every day
c) if I used more eco bulbs (but then I only tend to have one light on at a time anyway)
d) if I changed my electricity supplier from Ebico, which is quite high for low electricity users last time I checked
But other than that, it will be tough to cut further. I think you are doing very well.0 -
Thanks for all the advice guys, I will stick where I am for the time beingDebt busting 2022 Total £15842.68 £0 (100% paid since 1/1/22)

Sounds about right to me for a frugal single person in a 2 bed terraced0

Sounds good, I'm paying £80 combined but working on bringing it down, I am hoping to pay about £65 per month over the year.0
