Unusual Venues - Where, cost, regrets??

OK so im looking at a wedding in spring 2011. No budget as yet as money will come as we save up so im looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful yet a bit individual.

A registry office was first thought of due to it being simple and cheap etc but ideally we want it a bit personalised. So ive found a local Golf Club.
Heard of Football Clubs but not Golf doing weddings. Anyways, recieved the brochure and i quite like the idea. Yet to view but should be ok for photos with well maintened buildings, gardens etc. They offer all the trimmings like red carpet and also the night time do is all in the same place.
Room hire is £150 for the civil ceromony and £250 for the suite at night.

Whats the general cost for rooms?? As the only other one ive liked the look off is wanting £1000 plus £40 an hour to attend the to the rooms beforehand to decorate etc.

Does this sound about right compared to other function rooms and civil ceromonies. Obviuosly food and entertainment etc are extra.

Also has anyone had their wedding in a more less than conventional venue? How did it go?

I'm paying £150 for the room I'm getting married in, but it can be a lot more expensive!

£250 for the room at night sounds good too as I know some places can charge thousands!

If you contact your local reg office, they should be able to give you a list of all venues in the area where you can get married and have your reception in.

We are having our civil partnership at a golf club too, I heard of it from someone on the forums - went for a drive to have a nosey, drove round the corner and went wow! The club house was only built two years ago and is lovely, because it is a golf course, the views are beautiful.
They were alot more flexible about things than other venues, such as - menu choices (we want a mix of the hot and cold buffet), decorating the room (we wanted to do it ourselves) plus we liked that the menu prices are the same for any event (i.e. they don't add £££ just for weddings) and best of all they have posh wooden lodges that we've booked to stay in all weekend!

The room hire is the same as yours £150 for the ceremony & £250 for the room hire, but if you chose the £30 a head sit down meal, this was free.

If you both like it - go for it!

  • how unusual are you thinking? Me and the OH are getting married in a cave ;)

Check out your local registry office web site for approved premises :) Was a lot of help when we were deciding where to wed :)

    We got married here.

It was expensive, but totally worth it.

Ive looked at Speke Hall and would love it apart from the cost. Im only five minutes up the road in Woolton so would be ideal.
  • The prices you have been given are really good for room hire and ceremony fee, some placed charge £500-£1000+just for the pleasure of saying the words in their property. If you like the venue I would say its an exceptionally price.
We are having a castle for a week but room rates for a party in the evening ,big room with stage in a hotel, for my in laws 40th anniversary next year is about £600-900.

  • Also looking for an unusual (pretty!) venue in Merseyside so if you do find somewhere please share. We're trying to keep the budget as low as possible but also somewhere nice. If we can keep the venue budget down we'll be able to get married sooner rather than later

    Thanks

Hi, know that this is not in your area nor probably cheap enough but I have just seen that London Zoo and Whipsnade Zoo are both offering 15% off their published venue charges for Wedding held between October and April next. I saw the Living’s Four Weddings one on TV which was held at London Zoo and it looked lovely.

I have also seen people booking places like football stadium, hiring a boat/restaurant, or local attraction venues.... worth a thought!
