A couple of weeks back i won a DKNY handbag from a Lil-Lets competition, its selling for £175 in Harvey Nichols.
I would have kept it but its in a Turqouise colour ( I hate turquoise),so I decided to Ebay it.
I started the auction at 99p with a reserve at £80.Ive not had much interest so far apart from one bid which didn`t meet reserve.
Ive just had a message from same person who made bid, they have zero feedback and it seems fishy to me
Here`s the message I got
Hello!
I have only recently set up my Paypal account and I am still
waiting for my debit card to be verified (3-5days). I am really
interested in buying this pair of shoes and I was wondering if I
could pay for my purchase via online banking directly to your
bank account.
If not, would it be possible for me to delay my payment if I were
to win the bid until my account is verified.
I would really appreciate it if you could kindly consider my
request and get back to me as soon as possible.
Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon.
Im almost certain its a scam I mean they say pair of shoes and its a bag
Should I just ignore the message,or what can I reply to them ?
Any advice would be appreciated,Ive been selling on Ebay for a while now but never anything this expensive....help

Get them to pay by bank transfer, once its in your bank its safe (well as safe as anything can be these days)I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

you are selling a handbag and they are referring to shoes.... or did I miss something?Friend Debt: 5,000/3,850

Why don't you just email them to clarify? Once it is established they want a bag and not shoes (or not as the case may be) you can decide if you want a bank transfer. Things seem to be made so complicated on this board sometimes.0

It's odd but the general wording suggests a scam, but usually that sort of wording denotes a Western Union scam.
Two possibilities here, either they will send a fake bank transfer notification and suddenly want the bag shipped urgently, or else they are genuine.
In either scenario an email back with your bank details and a statement that you will send the bag and provide tracking details the day after payment shows in your account wouldn't hurt. If payment does arrive and is still in your bank next day it can't be recalled, and if it doesn't you haven't lost anything except time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks, for your advice.
I dunno if Im right but I have a "gut" feeling that its a scam,I don`t fancy giving my bank account details neither, someone else has made a bid but not met reserve they have good feedback.Would it be cheeky if I emailed the second bidder to see if they could make me an offer and if the price is right change it to buy it now (at an arranged time)would this work?
I really do not want to sell it to the 1st bidder as summats telling me its dodgy,I`ll have to answer them maybe ask for a postal order.
Any advice would be helpful, sorry to pester but never sold anything this expensive before
I was going to list a Mini-laptop which i won too,but thinking twice about Ebay, I`ll try the local paper instead.:A :shocked::shocked: :A0 -
Do you ever give a cheque to anyone? Because thats all the info you give them and its far safer than a postal order, and quicker.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Has the auction finished yet?
If not then you may find you get more interest at the end & it may be better to let the auction run.
If someone pays by Bank Transfer then, as others have said, this is a very safe way for the seller - its the buyer who run the risk with no paypal protection. Payments can be recalled up to the day the payment hits your account so always wait until the next working day before you send.
Ultimately though if you get a gut feeling about something then it probably best to walk away.0 -
don't send someone your bank details - especially via email. Sounds like a scam to me. Just put the item back on ebay - make sure you include how you came by the bag and be honest about the auction - especially if you can provide evidence to the items legitimacy.A couple of weeks back i won a DKNY handbag from a Lil-Lets competition, its selling for £175 in Harvey Nichols.

People are wary of designer goods on ebay because of all the fakes flying about...0 -
just say you'll wait for the account to be up and running?????You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0
