People hate ebay and winge about them (me included) but at the end of they day its the best way to sell... if it wasn't then no one would use it and it would close down.

Nowehere else can you tout your wares to so many customers to get such good prices as you can on ebay.

I think they are greedy ba$tards but until something else comes along thats better and people start using it... they will continue to thrive.

I fully agree with their charges being wayyyyy too much.

But I think Ebay is best for certain things rather than the local paper or carboot.

I sold 40 items of Next clothes that my boy had worn and grown out of in size 18-24 mths. I listed it all at 99p starting all seperate so for 40 lisitings there was no listing fees.
I made after postage and all fees £226 just on his clothes.

I would never of made that on a carboot, as when I buy clothes off a carboot I usually like items for 50p max lol cos Im tight on a bootie.

But saying that a carboot is alot easier due to the goods going instantly, so no hassle of posting, then the risk of the buyer not receving their goods.

Couldn't agree more. I stopped using eBay about a year ago when I discoverd Gum Tree. :j There's usually one for each big town/city and no fees. There's also a Freebies section which is a bit like FreeCycle. It's great and I've sold loads of stuff, and bought a few things as well. I just got fed up with eBay's fees as well and too much red tape.

Ebay used to be great, a community of people buying and selling to each other. Now it's just yet another vehicle for big businesses to sell through.

ok so this is what happened:

i sold my beloved serato scratch live for 340 with the intension of buying taktor scratch for 400.

after the sale im left with 300 pounds, now i need an extra 100 quid to put towards my new toy instead of just 60.

i would have kept the dam thing if i knew it was going to cost me 44 quid to sell it!!

im really p^&%sed off about it.

ebay is great, and i did get emails saying there fees would increase but a flat fee of ebay 10% + 3% paypal respectivly is too much.

thats a whole 44 quid just disapeared? and why because theres a lack of decent competition.

if its 10% now whats it going to be in two years time ???? :mad:

A 2nd vote for Gumtree. I've sold a few higher value items e.g. tickets, bookcases through there and paid no fees at all.

I've also used preloved.co.uk in the past to sell my wedding dress and paid nothing. If I'd sold it through ebay / paypal I'd have paid almost £100 in fees (and would have been forced to use Paypal).

I tend to only use e-bay to sell low value stuff now.

However, I ALWAYS check ebay first when I want to buy something as you can still pick up some amazing bargains

local paper? fee's plus a far lower possible audience
if you dont want to pay fee's then use ebays free & local gumtree

i had the same trouble with them. talking to a mate today and he said try preloved.co.uk i haven't looked on it yet but it may be worth it.
