Agreed, their fees are quite high. Lack of competition!

And definitely don't sell any Microsoft products on ebay - once ebay and paypal have had their cut, Microsoft take theirs too! Sold server software for £300 and lost nearly £100 in fees

  • It is becoming increasingly bad for sellers....half the stuff you can no longer claim P&P for, you can't leave negative feedback so you get frustated with non-paying bidders and they have it stitched up so everybody pays by Paypal and they take a hefty cut of that.

Does anybody know of any other auction sites with better outcomes for the sellers?

There used to be qxl.co.uk which was the next most popular but they closed up shop early this year :(

I never use e-bay - my daughter was badly cheated and they couldn't give a stuff. Try your local paper; most of them do free ads for low priced items. I just sold a vehicle for nine grand, which cost me £40 for an ad in the local paper. Selling it on e-bay would have cost much more than this, with all the problems associated with dodgy non payers and being pestered by people from Romania who want you to give them cash back.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I agree with the above - try local papers and adverts in shop windows. I've had more success that way and for the cost of an ad or a few pence in shop windows...why not try it.

Alternatively, try selling your stuff at a car boot - yes, you have to pay a charge for your "pitch" but generally I've got my money back and more.

If you have books to sell, try selling them on Amazon - I've done well selling them on there and had nothing via Ebay for the same, also CD's, DVD's and other stuff although I've only ever advertised books on there.

Have to say, I'm not a huge fan of Ebay.

I'm not a fan of eBay either - not sure why really.

I did buy a watch a few years back and then the company appeared on Watchdog as being a bit dodgy.

It seems to be a bit like Marmite - I have a couple of friends who swear by it, both in terms of buying and selling, yet others won't touch it with a bargepole after assorted problems.

I sell stuff on Amazon, Play, and Green Metropolis, and have been doing really well. It's quick to list items - I believe listing on eBay is rather time consuming - and it's clear exactly what I'll make on sales. Money goes into a bank account rather than having to deal with PayPal - I've heard too many problems and hassles with PayPal.

  • car boots are much better imo, true you have to pay for your pitch, but it's astonishing what you can sell, did one with a friend and we split the cost, took a packed lunch, made well over £100 and everything left over we took to the charity shop.n Quite a good day out really, tiring but good fun.

I think E-Bay lost many of its sellers sometime ago due to fees etc. it simply isn't what it used to be. I personally no longer use it for buying or selling, you can pick some of items up in the high street discount stores for less than E-Bay sellers are selling them for.

I no longer recommend it for Debt Free Wannabee newbies to sell their goods on it either, a carboot sale is far better, you won't believe the toot some people will buy cause its 50p.
