Please correct me if im wrong but if you mean what i think you do it cannot be done.

I joined A&L when they advertised their (at the time) market leading interest rate current account. 6 months later they introduced their fixed 10% savings account, which was open to 'brand new customers only''- so that was me out. 12 months later they introduce their 6.1% market leading CA which again was for ''brand new customers only'', making the 12% unaccessable again for me. I phoned to change to the higher interest rate but ........''brand new customers only''.

So what are people like me to do? Quess its the 'poor' 8% Lloyds for us.
You requalify as a new A&L customer if you close your existing account and wait three months - that's what I did in May and was able to be accepted for a 12%RS and new Premier account last week.

Some of my calculations are a little steep, and after some analysis. This one is not bad at all considering only the tax minus bonly racket, its well worth it. So £1 is whats all needed to go into the main account?

As I understand from reading the posts here, in order to qualify for the regular saver, they are updating the t's and c's so you have to have a currrent account with Lloyds, but that can be either the classic one, where you don't actually have to put money in each month, or the classic plus where you have to deposit £1000 in each month. As I understand the payment to the regualar saver each month can be from another current account if you want.

Yes. This is correct. Their latest t&c on their website now confirm that all you need is a LloydsTSB current account (Classic) but this does not need to be your main account and you can source your payments into the regular saver from an outside account.
    Where now?

Just went into my local TSB branch and was told that to open this monthly saver, I would have to open a current account but this had to be my MAIN ACCOUNT, and had to deposit £500 each month??

I have just phoned TSB and have been told what everyone says here, that I can just deposit a small amount of money into it each month and use my account now, with Halifax, to deposit the money into Lloyds TSB current account then into the monthly saver.

Guess Im on my way there tomorrow.

I opened the current account online, preloaded it with, then went into my local branch to open up the saver. I had no problems with any of the process.

it even says you can do the saver over the phone, when you finally get your current account. lets see. it seems that this 15th of september where they would update the t and conditions was not not information passed to each branch.

  • OK, after three months of waiting for the right moment, I'm going to open one this week. Two questions... do you need an appointment or can you just go in and open one? And the £500 opening deposit, can they do that for you, or do you have to deposit it into the account yourself?
