Do claims on rental properties affect your personal no claims?

Renewing my own home insurance on the property where I live at the moment.
As well as my own house, I also have a rental property and have had one buildings claim on this property (seperate landlord insurance policy) after a break in.
Am I right in assuming that this claim shouldn't affect my personal home insurance no claims history, and that I can safely click the "no claims" button when buying online?

It depends on the wording of the question about claims. The chances are the wording will be designed to gather details of all properties you own so would need to be declared.

However if you get quotes without the claim and then contact the Insurer and explain it was for a rental property a lot will ignore it. If you don't declare it or get it cleared with them it could potentilly cause problems. Make sure you take a note of the persons name and the date / time you rang or even better get them to confirm it in writing
  • yes it does count as a valid claim - it's in your name and for a property you own/have a financial relationship with.

So no you can't click on the no claims button.

If you then go on and state 'no claims' you could end up having your insurance terminated/claims refused when you go to make them as this would be classed as non-disclosure of material facts.
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!
