Open current a/c without putting in salary?

Hi,

Are there any banks that let you open a current account with a debit card, but not have to put in your salary every month?

Thanks,

Carl

I think all banks have such accounts.

Absolutely grumbler, my own the Nationwide I would recommend to anyone, not only because of the no-fee use abroad but the customer service has actually been that (a novelty these days). I have been with them since I was 18yrs old, as I needed an account in a rush for my summer job to pay my wages into, and although I no longer make financial decisions in such haste (i.e. first bank/BS along the high st), I'm glad I did that day!

I can second the recomendation for Nationwide. I wanted an esaver account and they automatically gave me a flex account in order to carry out the transfer of monies easier. No salary goes in just a little money once in a while. Got a full visa debit card no problems.

If you are not bothered about a branch network I think Cahoot may also do one if I can remember that far back.
  • Can you also get a chequebook on this basis?

I need a second account to deal with the expenses incurred in running my father's house until probate is granted and I want to keep it all separate from my own current account. I need a chequebook to pay bills and one-off expenses.

Was thinking about Nationwide. Would put in a lump sum to start with (but not a big one) and then small amounts in and out to keep things ticking over.

Would appreciate any help with this. Thanks very much.

Would you not be better off opening a second account with your present bankers as they would already know you?
If you already have a debit card and cheque book on your main account I see no reason why they would not oblige you with the second one.
