Tesco Wine - Every Little Bit DOESN'T Help

Tesco wine online were offering a sale of wines via their online site. I was interested and wanted to stock up. All the wines are sold in a case of 6 which suited me as I could choose a variety. So far so good......but when you get to checkout with 18 bottles of wine you are told your order is invalid. Searching deeper the reason is that you can buy 12. (2 cases of 6) or 24 or even 36, but you can't buy 18 or 30 !!

I queried why the system was like this via Customer Services and the nice lady said it seemed ridiculous. She said she would refer it the wine Department.I heard nothing so wrote a polite and helpful letter suggesting they may like my business but that 18 bottles was my preference and as they sell in sixes it should be too difficult.

Aaaah but yes but no but.......after a month they send a pitiful response (spellings incorrect, wording incoherent) saying they can't alter their terms and conditions. No real explanation !!

Oh well, plenty of alternatives. You try and help but it sometimes falls on deaf ears. How to alienate a customer eh Mr.Leahy ??

It may be due to the packaging that the case of 12 comes in and they are loathe to split packs up for fear of having them left over.
I know the oddbins at farringdon is the same last time i went there for wine.
Bit of a pain in the !!!! i admit, but look at the retailers point of view with the logisitcs and possible waste from splitting packs

See your point and only guessing but presumably grouping orders into boxes of 12 makes it easier/more efficient for their delivery drivers i.e. it's easier to carry two cases of 12 but nigh on impossible (probably dangerous?) to carry four cases of 6 bottles.

Like you, initially I also wondered why - specially when an odd number of cases got me to the £99 free delivery amount - but I've used Tesco Wine by Case quite a lot now and been really pleased with both the wine and and the service.
Cashback is available via Quidco plus double points for the next three days and you can double up your Tesco vouchers to spend on wine too!

So, yes, a small niggle but in the scheme of things they score top marks in my book.

Yes that is annoyingly stupid, is Virgin Wines of any interest to you? I keep on getting/seeing offers by them that apply if you spend around £40+?

But, I doubt Terence has much input in the wine division.

No, they're happy to mix cases. My last delivery comprised loose bottles separated by some concertina-type cardboard.

No. That would have been an order from Tesco Grocery, not Tesco Wine.
Tesco Wine only sell in multiples of 12, and do not split cases.

tesco grocery is a separate division to tesco wine online hence its only online and the wines could be different

No. The point is that they advertise and you buy in cases of 6. You can buy two different cases, four but not 3 or 5. :rotfl:

I often use virgin wines and have also used Tesco happily in the past. To be honest they are much the same in terms of quality and offers. The reason for 'venting' (in a lighthearted manner) was the stupidity of it all. Not only that, but the nice customer service lady agreed totally with me then she herself wrote back saying there was nothing they could do......

Can't they use a case which is half the size and holds 6?
Even if they used two cases with a capacity of 12 they would only use two boxes to meet my order of 18, the same as an order of 24. The marginal cost of cardboard would not wipe out the healthy profit they would make on my 6 extra bottles.

It was even better :D I didn't buy any from them making it a real bonus.
Oh but I blew it by celebrating and treating myself to a few bottles of champagne from an offer being run by Laithwaites.
