My other half wants me to sell his Sony W810i for him.. He upgraded, but doesn`t like it (I love mine!) ... so is going back to his old handset as Orange won`t let him exchange it.
As far as I can see on ebay, they are going for £200+. and I am worried about getting ripped off.
Which payment methods should advertise .. I know i`ll make it a UK only auction, and have done my settings accordingly, so that nobody outside the country can bid if I don`t advertise it.
Any advise appreciated !

I would say (personally)
-Paypal only but not BIN
-listing restricted to UK only, with no minus score bidders
-Clearly state the 0 rated bidders bids will be cancelled unless they contact you first.
-No postage outside of UK - no exceptions.
-Postage by special delivery only
-you reserve the right to cancel any bids you feel are not genuineIt's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
In addition, take photos and list all serial numbers and imie numbers so they cannot claim a part failed later on and send you back the phone they had previously dropped.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

please, be cautious with paypal.............
DONT POST TO ANY ADDRESS OTHER THAN A PAYPAL VERIFIED ONE
if someone collects the phone DONT USE PAYPAL (no tracking number)
and read https://www.bleugh.co.uk/paypal
otherwise, i agree with smartie above, and add
note the IMEI number of the phone, (on a sticker, you can also do *#06# or something like that on the keypad) this way, if someone trys switching the phone for a non working one, you know it's been swapped as the IMEI numbers are uniquemoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

All the phones I have sold recently have gone without a single hitch. I agree with all the suggestions as above and would add one further one, and that is put a line in your auction saying something like 'I won't ship to your brother, aunt or next door neighbour who currenly lives overseas, so please don't bother asking'.
Scammers know that 99.99% of sellers won't fall for their tricks, so warn them up front. They are only interested in that tiny percentage of sellers who will ship to Nigeria on a false paypal or Western Union payment, if they see you are savvy they will just go and try someone else.

The advise above is good. But I wouldn't worry too much about it! Everyone seems to be scared of selling phones and every time I sell them they go without any problems. As said make sure you warn 0 bidders than there bids will be cancelled. Not sure about the "I wont send to your brother" bit, I never like auctions that have that in them...it just seems a bit unprofessional to me, I would prefer going with something like "UK bidders only, offers from outside the UK will not be accepted."Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0

I sold a phone to someone in Italy. First, I was going to cancel then he messeged me and sounded like a genuine buyer and on top of that his address is verified with paypal.
I am just about to send the phone off. Do you think I'm doing the right thing?
Thanks,

Not sure, maybe start a seperate thread for more responses, never sold abroad myself, but people on here in the past have said they have a great % of problems with sales abroad than those in the UK.lazymoezy wrote:I sold a phone to someone in Italy. As to phone to Italy I hace sent quite a few items I would but send signed for or Airsure.
As for selling on EBay personally I would decide the price I wanted and then BIN with "Immediate Payment Required" I would also put it on a 1 day or 3 day auction, less time for scammers to get their claws into you.
Also add note you will only send to verified addresses.
If you list on a normal auction you will spend all your time cancelling bids from zero feedback buyers and at the end of the day theyu will still win by bidding in the last minute.
Pricing wise I think £200 is too high; it has also been used briefly so I would price it at £145-£150 for quick sale. You might get a tad more but why push your luck.
Hope that helps.0 -

I'm not sure, I reckon £200 is fair to expect for the W810i, when I sold mine I got £280, OK it was a scammer but the nearest highest was £270, seen most go around £200 - £250.2p off is still 2p off!0
