How can I explain in simple english?

Right help please with percentages............
We've done a job for another company and they haven't paid us enough. I am nearly 100% sure that I am correct but I want to run things past you wise people, and also if I am right to help me explain in simple english how I am right!!!
Basically we quoted for a job and then added on 15% to quote on behalf of another company (to save them time)
The figures are:
D net price £5186.95
D VAT £778.04
D gross £5964.99 - price quoted and accepted by company we are sub-contracting to.
D net price £5186.95
B net price £5965.00 - marked up 15%
B VAT £894.75
B gross £6859.75 - final figure quoted and accepted by client
They have paid us £5830.78 which they are explaining is 85% of the total price.
I have sent the above and they have replied saying that they have spent far too much time on this now and have used up factoring services that cost money (don't have a clue what that is). Basically she's telling me that she's right and I'm wrong.
I know that if I use her logic on £115 and take off 15% or work out 85% I do not get £100!!!!!
Advice please!

I don't see what the issue is here?
You quoted company A £6859.75 for a contract. They accepted this quote.
You then sub-contracted company B to carry out the contract on your behalf and paid them £5964.99.
If the contract has been carried out, then company A need to pay you £6859.75. Why would they only pay you 85% of the quote if that isn't what you agreed?
(btw, 85% of £6859.75 is £5830.79, not that it appears to be relevant).
Seek payment of the outstanding amount within 7 days, and if refused, start proceedings to recover that amount.0 -
Thanks. I knew I was right but the way she's kept saying 'I've taken 15% (agreed mark up) off' was making me doubt my maths.
What if I used the same logic to pay my fitters - they'll end up a hundred or so out of pocket too!!!0 -
She shouldn't take 15% off!!! She should divide by 115 then multiply by 100.
!!!!!!, basic maths eludes some people......0 -
Thanks everyone, I explained it really basically to her using 100 and 115 as simple examples, now she's moved the goal posts completely and stated that she wanted 15% of the total bill!!!! Oh well I love a good fight and she's got one coming!!!0

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you told your customer that you have added 15%. I would have not told them that , just quoted a price. Having said that, your full price was agreed so that is what should be paid.0

tell her its like the VAT thing, spend £100 + vat at 15% = 115
take vat off 100 does not come to £15

martin - we subcontracted to another company and quoted on their behalf, using their quote paper etc etc, so the customer paid them and they paid us. when we quoted for them we had to mark up our price by 15% but she's now said that she wanted 15% of the total invoice (that's not what mark up means to me!!)
borders - that's exactly what i tried to tell her - i do wonder if she can run a business actually!!!0 -

Trying it on I think - just trying to get more money for doing nothing!0
