My wife wants to start driving again but had her last lessons about 16 years ago is her provisional license still valid or will she have to apply for a new license?

there should be an expiory date on the licence. if that is current there is no problem

Probably need a new license to update the photo on the card; I do know that if you've got a passport recently you can tell the DVLA to contact the IPS and use the photo off it.

No photo on a licence that old - it just depends on the date on it. I don't remember if provisional licences were for a set period or open ended.

Provisional licences - even ones from 1993 or earlier- will be valid for category B (car) until the holder's 70th birthday. This will be stamped on the licence.

It will be old style paper licence which is still perfectly valid, providing there is no change to the name or address. To take a theory and driving test, you must take along a passport for visual identification as there is no photo on the licence.

If the test is passed, only photocard licences will be issued, so you must get a D1 form from a post office before sending in the old licence and pass certificate to upgrade to a full licence.

We have found the license it is valid till 2045.
