  • Just wanted to share with anyone interested in switching to A &L premier current account for the £100. If you're going to do this, make sure you do it through the topcashback.co.uk website (sign up for free), because potentially you could get an extra £45.45 from them as well as the £100 from the bank!

Sadly I have seen nothing mentioning this concession in the public domain.

Just read this article today, which confirms what you have been saying, and (even though people have stopped reading it) I will update the guide with this information:-

BBC Website - "HBOS to alter overdraft changes"

On a side note, the article is a bit misleading, it seems to imply this buffer has been put in place after consumer pressure. My understanding (similar to yours) has been that it has always been there, but just not widely publicised by HBOS.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.

rb10, do you have a link / reference to this information to confirm it, or is this merely a concession that isn't mentioned in the T&Cs?

While I have no reason to disbelieve a reliable poster such as yourself it would be good to see an official confirmation from HBOS.

I too was curious about this 'buffer' zone. I mailed Halifax who told me to go into a branch...so this Saturday I did. I simply said that I'd cleared my overdrafts and just wanted to confirm (as I'd heard) if there was a £10 buffer zone prior to being charged. The lady said, quietly, that there was a £10 buffer zone but it's not in any of the terms & conditions and it's not something they like to be common knowledge.

However...someone I know who has had a 'reward' account for a year is saying they have been charged for going 1p overdrawn.

Halifax...the bank that likes to say...yes...erm, if you ask that is, otherwise we won't tell you.
I'M NOT AS THINK AS YOU DUMB I AM...
