Wii newbie - what do I need?

Hi,
Know absolutely nothing about the Wii but family member has offered to buy one for us for Christmas :j
Lots of good deals around but basically they are the console, Wii sports, sports resort and motion plus controller plus games etc.
What controllers would I need for a family of 4? Would it be more nunchucks (what is it anyway?) or remote controllers? Is the charging station a necessity or just handy to save on batteries? Any advice would be great - also any games you think are fantastic!
Our current console is a PS2 so the Wii concept is new to us, sorry to want such basic info

The deal you mentioned with Wii sports resort is great, as it's a fab game.
An extra controller would be a good idea if you only get one, although a lot of the games on Wii sports and Wii sports resort are not multiplayer, so the one controller can be passed around between family members.
We don't have a charging station for the controllers, we just use single use batteries, but if you do this, make sure you stock up.
I love the Wii and I'm sure you will.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
Hi, we're a family of four - we didn't bother with the charging station - just replace batteries - we don't use it every day so they batteries aren't too bad.
We have 2 controllers - would like 4 so we can all play the racing game at once - mario karts or whatever it is, but we are working fine with 2 controllers and taking it in turns. With bowling you take it in turns anyway so you could get away with one controller and just keep passing it, but you wouldn't be able to have more than one person at a time playing other games that might be multi player.
We got wii sports. We have extra nunchucks (OH insisted) but you don't need them for every game (the boxing on sports I think) and so have never even used them yet!!!
Just got a wii fit - and that's fun (and I don't really like exercise) - lots of balance exercises, ski jump, hula hoop, football headers, ski slalom.

I am in the same boat. I have just had delivered the Toys R Us set (£159.99), Wii with Wii resort. I know I need a balance board but controller wise I have not got a clue!
Anyone know any good deals on the balance board?0 -

Does that mean that I will need a balance board too? I thought that was only for the Wii Fit?

The balance board is mainly for wii fit, some other games appear to make use of it too (like a ski game I saw but can't remember the name), but that will be marked on the game.
It's not neededwe've had the wii for nearly a year and only just got wii fit and the balance board

So, I got my bargain, now all I need is....
Mario Kart that comes with wheel I believe? (now I have read about it I remember thats the game the kids love at Aunties house)
An extra wheel
Wii Play (to get spare remote)
spare nunchuck (to stop them squabbling)
1 Balance board. (FOR ME!)
Thats the Xmas budget gone then!!0 -
You'll need some good games! Resident Evil 4 is a classic, as is Zelda but it's a HUGE game.
The novelty of flailing wildly soon wears off.
Wii fit is not very good. See the Parody on YouTube.....0 -
why not put some of it on the presents list for others to buy!!!
You don't need it all at once
We got a generous present of the wii fit and balance board just the other weekworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
