At work today one of my friends asked me if its possible to read an email with out having to open it, thus causing the read reciept to be sent to the person who sent the email.
Now i know u can view a certain amount of an emaiol using the autopreview function but is there anyway of viewing the entire message using this function?
i think we use outlook 97 (yeah i know government has invested heavily in it Technical side :rotfl: )
If anyone has any ideas would be most appreciated.

If its in outlook or outlook express you can right click the message and in the menu goto mark as unread left click on that and it will look like its not been readWelcome, rogerramjet.

You are generally given an option as to whether a read receipt is sent or not - just say no & no receipt is sent
As to making it look as if it isn't read, just use the right mouse button on the message & select "mark as unread"0 -
You can actually turn off the read receipt option as well, if I remember correctly, its tools --> Options then receiptsWelcome, rogerramjet.

Right-click the email, select Properties, click the Details tab then click the Message Source button. Shows it as text only so you could get HTML and/or gibberish if it has embedded pictures/icons etc.
ps - auto preview maybe not a good idea, was a virus going around some time ago which relied on this.0 -
hi guys sorry should have said its work emails, so basically it doesnt give u the option of whether or not you want to send the read reciept or not, oncethe email is opened it automatically sends a read reciept to the person who sent the email.
Will have a go at ur suggestion Manathome and see if that works if it does it could be very handy in deed thanks to all that have answered :beer:Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580 -
if it doesn't give the option then they've probably preset the send read receipt. Just disable it so it gives the option to send one.0
