What do you think - buy a 19" TFT or buy a new PC?

This is true, but my current CRT is almost an arms length in size and takes up a big chunk of the desk! (I don't want to drop from 19" either).

Remember your CRT is 4:3 so don't buy a 19" widescreen TFT.

I'm running a P2 here on an ancient CRT screen and it's fine for what I want.
Clever moneysaving would say don't spend money unless you need to, so don't buy a new PC. Research monitor options, because I will agree that the new flat screens are nicer to look at.

Remember a 19" CRT only has ascreen of +/- 18" (viewable). I ended up getting a 17" TFT and to be honest i haven't noticed much difference. The price jump from 17" to 19" is quite large so don't damn the 17" out of hand.

Now what I want is another monitor to double my viewable area...ah dreams...:)

I'd stick with your current system.

Its a P4 system so you can always upgrade to a faster P4 (cheap as chips as 64-bit takes over)

You can always stick some more RAM in too. RAM is soooo cheap compaired with what it used to be.

But as you dont seem to be doing anything that needs a super dooper computer your current specs seem fine for office/internet/DVD

I have a shop near me called CCL computers, it's quite popular and they have some very knowledgeable people working there, so basically they get to try/test all the new hardware. Gives them good product knowledge and I find they have very specific views about products.

I went there when upgrading my CRT to a LCD monitor. They inisisted I got a Hyundai, as it boasts to have a 3ms GtG response time. Ov course there are going to be better monitors out there but for the price you get a GOOD product.

It even has a 3 years warranty, now this says to me they have complete faith in the standard of the monitors.....

I've had mine about 6 months now, completely impressed with it. Not seen any ghosting, colours are nice, viewing angle is more than enough and brightness is smooth on the eyes. It has both analogue and digital connectors and has built-in speakers (never used them as any LCD speakers are going to be depthless)

I got my daughter a 19" widescreen LCD monitor for a her birthday and its great, I am jealous as heck.

Its a Viewsonic 19" widescreen 1440x900 resolution. It was just short of £200 less cashback from HERE

She has it on dvi display but also has vga should you need it with 8ms response rate. Its fine on her system a celeron 3ghz 756 ram, Nvidia 4200 video card, she plays the sims2 a lot.

Funny thing was the day I ordered her 17" llyama ofr 9 years old packed in, fate or what?

Probably not the place - but I'll say it anyway.

I recently bought a top spec dell with a free 19inch 1907 Ultrasharp monitor. I'm still happy with my old 18in Ultrasharp monitor, so the new one remains unopened in the box.

I'd happily sell you the new monitor for £200 plus genuine delivery costs (or you could collect - I object to the cost involved in ebay or I'd just list it there - it is currently in the freeads). These do sell for more than that on Ebay -so I don't think I'd be ripping you off.

Alternatively I'd sell the 18inch monitor for £150 plus genuine delivery costs. Honest don't know if this would be ripping you off cos I can't see any on ebay. This is definately second hand - but I still have the original packaging and there are absolutely no faults whatsoever with it.

I don't know if I'm allowed to list mention these items - I apologise if not. I am genuinely trying to help out a fellow moneysaver - I'm not running a small business selling dells or anything.

If people feel that I have overstepped the mark - please comment to that end, and I will remove the post - or if you are a moderator please feel free to remove the post yourself.

If you are interested then please PM me - incidentally if anyone else was interested the offer would remain. I'm based in Cardiff.
