Specialised car parts query

We need a new ABS computer for our Renault. Going through Renault themselves is going to cost a little over 1k, so we thought it might be possible to pick one up from a parts dealer or a scrap yard type place.

Is this the kind of thing we might find somewhere....or is it usually just parts like mirrors and bumpers etc that you can get second hand?

Thanks for any advice.

  • Google for the part you require, or try ebay.

eBay wouldn't have crossed my mind for something like this tbh. I've just checked and there are some.....but not for our car.

    Will Google now too, thanks.

Thanks everyone. Checked those sites out but no luck. Will get OH to phone them too I think.

We only have 1 tiny scrapyard near us and it's more of a junk yard with burnt out shells than anything else. No harm in asking though.

The best way would put an ad out on breaker systems - if a breaker has one he'll phone you with a price.

I have quite a few breakers here, I could phone them between now and Monday for you and let you know, and post it to you, probably cheaper for you than these mail order parts co.'s

If you are interested, I'll need Exact model details and a photograph of the part you want in situ and removed and a photo of any spec no.s on the part itself.

Thanks for the links b_h.....and thanks for the offer of help, Wig.

Tbh, I have no idea where this part is or what it looks like, so I wouldn't know what to photograph. All I know is what the Renault garage told us and wrote on the printed advice sheet they gave us....i.e. part required: ABS computer. OH is at work at the moment and wont be home until very late/early am but even then, I don't think he knows any more that that either.

One of the places he phoned asked for the car model details and the chassis number so I'm assuming that much info is enough to go on.

    I've pm'd you anyway.
