Query about workmen and keys

We had a double glazing company in our home to replace all windows and doors. They had been working for us for a number of months on an extension and we thought we could trust them. They were also recommended by a friend. I was at home ill when they were working when they stole money and jewellry. The person has gone to prison as we could prove they had done it. I wouldn't trust anyone again.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

I get quite a lot of work through word of mouth.
I get handed keys on a very regular basis and either pop them in the letter box when finished or hand them in when I pop back to go through the job (and get paid) at the end
It's all about trust.
There is no delving around (but customers are asked to leave the kettle, mugs for us to make coffee
) baldly going on...0 -
I get given keys all the time. I do tell people if I will need to check other rooms, if I have the power off and I want to check it all works later, so they know I will be wandering around bedrooms etc, even if I'm working downstairs. I walked into one house one morning with a set of keys, after they had gone to work, no-one told me about the golden labrador though. Don't know who was more surprised, but it never bit me. Nipped out of another house after lunch once to pick up some bits, I had the keys as the owner was working all day, and the owners daughter left some ratty little dog in the empty house, for her mum to look after that night. It spent all afternoon trying to bite me when I turned round. I had to go from room to room, so I couldn't even chase it into the kitchen.0
