Who will you use if RM take strike action?

If RM take industrial action and bring the postal service to a stand still who will you use instead?

I keep hoping someone will answer this for you, but as they haven't I'm going to suggest you head over to the Ebay board where they must be pretty dependent on posting things!

You may even find a thread there already ...

Thanks, but I'm sorted already, just wondered if there was an obvious 'other' supplier that people used when RM failed.

You may struggle with this as RM is used by other companies for the 'final mile' ie putting letters into the letter box. The last time there was a national strike a number of companies made a killing by charging clients and then shoving the mail in a letter box so you need to be very wary. Parcels are different of course with a number of companies offering a service - my favourite for this is parcel2go.

Yeah, but that's only any good as long as you are not sending physical objects, isn't it?

I mean, we can all send our bills through the ether, and ask for money to come back that way too (although I live with someone who doesn't 'do' internet banking, still relies on cheques), and that's fine if you only offer virtual services! The moment you offer a product which needs physical delivery to the door, who ya gonna call?

    "who ya gonna call?"

    brilliant - ghostbusters - didn't think of them!!:rotfl:

We're going to use electronic means where we can but parcel orders will go TNT. We have used them for about 8 years and NEVER failed a delivery yet. We have had a few problems but always resolved within 24hrs. We send all over 2Kg parcels that way anyway, but if we lose RM then all business will go with them. It'll help our TNT costings as we will have a higher parcel turnover and that'll get us a better discount. We are one of RM's customers that will be forced to use another company and then probably won't go back. We have stuck with RM so far because we have letter post but if we lose this RM will lose our parcel service too.
  • Like moneypooh said, me and my husband make an effort to send most things by electronic means if possible, I mean heck, it's good for the enviroment too!

We are still uncertain who to use for non-electronic mail yet though. We need to get a wiggle on though. It's not like we don't know that they aren't going to strike.

The world doesnt always rely on royal mail, if its that important then use a delivery firm to send the item. Dont bother sending letters, send an email, simple. It wont be long before them idiots calm down, they are lucky to have a job.

Couriers are fine for larger items (as noted by Amazon switching contracts for items over 500g) and email is fine for letters. There must be a huge amount of post in between these though. Just think of the many thousands of DVDs Lovefilm send through the post each week for starters.
